Why Is a First Aid Room Important at the Workplace?
Sec. 45 — Factories Act, 1948
Every factory must provide a first-aid box for every 150 workers, staffed by a trained responsible person during working hours. Factories with larger workforces may need a dedicated Ambulance Room instead, under applicable state Factory Rules — which can exempt the establishment from the standard first-aid box requirement.
Requirements vary by state and workforce size. Maharashtra’s Factory Rules set their own thresholds and staffing conditions in addition to the central Act. Every factory’s exact obligation should be assessed individually against its current employee strength, shift pattern and the rules applicable in its state.
